Helenandphil’s travel blog entry: “Stayed at YHA Airlie Beach **** and ‘Ileola’ sailing boat 3 days 5 each So, off to the wonderful Whitsundays, ‘sights for the soul’ according to the Lonely Planet bible and hugely recommended by friends that had left footprints on Whitehaven Beach before us (you know who you are). After wet, humid and quiet MacKay, we were really looking to enjoy Easter via a 2 nights / 3 day sail on a lovely old wooden boat, the ‘Ileola’ with its promise of snorkeling away sunfilled days Our first day in Airle Beach town boded well. The YHA was close to the bus station (we were now doing the proper Greyhound bus traveller thing) and housed exceptionally clean rooms with air-con. We lounged around the town’s impressive artificial lagoon for the afternoon, building a basecoat suntan and flopping in occasionally when the seven British guys chatting up the blond single girlie became too much. Packing for the boat was completed on time, with two small bags easily containing books, swimming togs, suncream and a couple of ‘bladders’ of wine. We were all set up for sailing and were more excited than when Nemo the clownfish found out he was going to star in his own hit movie… So what happened next, as I think …
